HOUSTON – Southeastern Louisiana's Elizabeth Styles' jumper with three seconds to go in the second overtime was the eventual game-winning basket in a tough 85-84 win over the HBU women's basketball team Saturday afternoon at Sharp Gym.

The two-overtime game was only the second in the history of the program, as the other came in a 101-99 win over Huston-Tillotson on Nov. 18, 2008.

Shanice Steenholdt tied her season high of 32 points and came one rebound shy of her season high of 16 as she recorded her ninth double-double of the season for HBU (7-12 overall, 3-5 SLC). Erin McGarrachan scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Rachel Arthur and Tayler Jefferson nearly recorded double-doubles, as Arthur had 13 points and seven assists, while Jefferson had 11 points and nine helpers.

Aja Gibson led Southeastern Louisiana (5-14 overall, 4-3 SLC) with 33 points and 16 rebounds. Styles finished with 30 points and Symone Miller scored 14.

HBU started the game on fire, scoring eight of the first nine points of the game before SLU used a 9-2 run to tie the game at 10-all with 14:34 to go in the first half. HBU then scored eight straight to take an 18-10 lead and force the Lady Lions to call a timeout at the 12:39-mark. The run was culminated by a steal and fast-break layup by Steenholdt.

HBU continued to roll, leading as many as 15 on three different occasions before the Lady Lions used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to eight, 31-23, with 4:50 to go in the first half. A layup by Gibson, followed by a Gibson steal and a made free throw by Miller cut the Huskies' lead to just five, 33-28, with 18 seconds to go until halftime. Jefferson nailed a three-pointer with five seconds remaining to give the Huskies an eight-point lead, 36-28, heading to the locker room.

HBU outscored SLU, 20-14, to lead the Lady Lions by 14, with 7:36 to go in regulation, as the Huskies maintained a comfortable lead throughout most of the second half.

Leading 58-44 with 6:40 remaining, SLU used a furious 20-6 run to close out regulation and force overtime tied at 64-all. Gibson made a layup with one second to go after grabbing an offensive rebound to force the extra period.

McGarrachan scored the first points in the first overtime, then Anna Strickland forced a steal which resulted in another jumper by McGarrachan as HBU led, 68-64, with 4:09 to go in the first OT. The Lady Lions scored five straight to take a 69-68 lead with 3:14 remaining. The Huskies eventually took a two-point lead, 76-74, on a layup by Steenholdt with 15 seconds left, but the Huskies were called with a foul, which put Styles on the line and she made both free throws, forcing a second overtime.

After each team exchanged baskets to start the second OT, SLU scored five unanswered to take an 83-78 lead with 2:54 to go.  The Huskies stormed back, scoring six-straight points to take an 84-83 lead with 32 seconds remaining, as McGarrachan's jumper fell through to give the Huskies the one-point edge. Styles missed a jumper, but Nanna Pool grabbed the offensive board, passed it to Styles, who made the basket with two seconds remaining. The Huskies' Hail Mary effort was intercepted as SLU held on.

HBU begins a four-game road trip Thursday, Jan. 30 at Lamar at 5:30 pm.
