HOUSTON – HBU freshman outside hitter
Jessica Wooten recorded 17 kills as the Huskies fell 1-3 (22-25, 26-24, 21-25, 22-25) against the Owls Friday morning at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Megan McStravick recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 19 digs, along with a pair of block solos. Junior middle blocker
Madeline Gaffney also helped HBU (5-4) by recording 12 kills. Freshman setter
Kayla Armer had 40 assists for the Huskies, along with nine digs. Junior libero
Haley Hoffman had 18 digs.
Jillian Humphrey recorded a match high of 21 kills for the Owls, while teammate Tyler Jenkins had 14 kills. Sara Blasier had 48 assists for Rice. Daniela Arenas recorded 35 digs for the Owls. Noelle Whitlock had 11 digs, while Lindsay Daniel had 10 digs.
HBU outblocked Rice 9-8. The Owls outhit the Huskies 58 kills to 52 kills. The Owls also outdug the Huskies 79-77.
The Huskies trailed the first set 13-6, but managed to score four straight points to make a comeback. After a serve ace made by Wenger, HBU tied up the set 18-18. Wooten then got the Huskies ahead 21-22 after a serve ace, but the Owls came back to win the match 25-22.
HBU jumped out to a 5-2 lead at the beginning of the second set. The Owls managed to come back by tying the set 11-11. The Huskies then took the lead by scoring seven straight points to put the score at 17-13. HBU then kept their lead until Rice came back to tie the set again. With Rice leading 24-23, HBU pushed through three points to end the match with a win 26-24.
In the third set, HBU took a 4-0 lead due to a serve error, kills by McStravick and Gaffney, and an attack error. However, Rice ended up coming back and taking the lead to put the score at 12-6. The Huskies managed to score six straight points to tie the set 12-12. The Owls then outscored the Huskies to win the set 25-21.
HBU trailed in the final set 7-4 when they scored five straight points to take the lead 7-8. The Huskies were ahead most of the set when the Owls made a comeback, putting the score at 18-15. HBU answered by scoring three points to tie up the set. However, it wasn't enough as the Owls won the set 25-22.
The Huskies continue to play in the Rice Invitational Tournament in their match against North Carolina State at 5:30 p.m. They will conclude the tournament Saturday morning with a match against Missouri at 11 a.m.
