COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior Kristopher Tyrpak's goal in the 80th minute tied the match at 1-1, but Air Force's Brian Klazura scored the go-ahead penalty kick with three minutes remaining in regulation, as fourth-seeded Air Force defeated fifth-seeded HBU, 2-1, Thursday afternoon in the WAC Quarterfinals from Cadet Soccer Stadium.

Tyrpak ended his collegiate career on a five-match scoring streak, as he scored his fifth goal of the season. Ricky-Paul Mupier earned the assist. Kevin Suarez suffered the loss in goal, as he allowed two goals and did not make a save.

Ryan Ward and Klazura each scored for the Falcons. Jake Schenk made a career-high 12 saves in goal, as he earned the win.

HBU dominated the shots in the opening half, 10-2, and 4-0 shots on goal, but the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime.

Both teams each had a chance to score in the opening half. Patrick Toh's shot in the 28th minute was stopped by Schenk. The rebound went to Mark Gendi, but his shot was blocked. Seven minutes later, Klazura's header attempt hit the post.

In the 62nd minute, Air Force's Matt Payne would have scored, but Sebastian Henke stopped the shot from going into the net, keeping the match scoreless.

The Falcons kept the pressure on, as Payne's next shot was blocked and Cameron Duley's shot went wide, all happening in the 65th minute. Suarez took the goal kick, but miskicked it right to Air Force's Ward, who scored into an open net from 25 yards out to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead midway through the second half.

Schenk then, literally, saved the day for the Falcons, as he made four saves on Huskies' shots in a span of eight seconds to keep Air Force in the lead. He stopped Toh three times and Gustavo Alvarado once.

The Huskies finally got through the Falcons' goalkeeper in the 80th minute, as Mupier sent in a cross pass and Tyrpak headed it past Schenk to tie the match at 1-1 with ten minutes left in regulation.

The Huskies tried again with the header shot, but Walter Kromholz's attempt in the 86th minute was stopped by Schenk.

Less than a minute later, Klazura was fouled in the box by George Kelley, resulting in a red card and a penalty kick for the Falcons. Klazura capitalized, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead with three minutes remaining in regulation and the Huskies playing a man down.

The Huskies had chances, as they were awarded a corner kick, but Schenk stopped both Henke's and Kromholz's shots.

HBU ends its season at 9-7-2. The Huskies had a five-win turnaround from a season ago, and the nine wins were the most since winning 10 in the 2008 campaign.

Air Force moves onto the WAC semifinals to play No. 1 Seattle Friday at 4 pm central.
