HOUSTON – Stefan Lamanna's second-half goal tied the match at one and Kevin Suarez came up huge in the first overtime period, as the HBU men's soccer team battled the WAC's top team, Seattle, to a 1-1 double overtime tie Friday evening at Sorrels Field.

Seattle entered the night as the only unbeaten team in the conference, at 5-0-2.

It took just 1:25 for Seattle to score the match's first goal, as Miguel Gonzalez fed Jonathan Massimino, who beat Suarez.

The Huskies almost tied the match, as a centering pass in the box found Kristopher Tyrpak, but Seattle netminder Jake Feener made a phenomenal diving stop in the 35th minute.

The two teams entered halftime with Seattle leading the Huskies, 1-0. HBU doubled up the Redhawks in shots, 10-5, and controlled shots on goal, 3-1, and corner kicks, 7-1.

HBU tied the match six minutes into the second half, as Lamanna scored his second goal of the season, assisted by Walter Kromholz. Kromholz ripped a shot that rung off the right post, ricocheted to the left side, and found Lamanna, who had an open net to shoot into.

Seattle almost took a 2-1 lead just six minutes later, in the 57th minute, as Bobby Segal's shot hit the post. But the Huskies were able to clear the ball out of harm's way. Neither team had another golden chance to score the remainder of the second half. The two teams played in a downpour the final 15 minutes of the second half and early in the first overtime session.

Seattle's best chance to win the match came in the 97th minute. Gonzalez was fouled in the box and was awarded a penalty shot. But Suarez came up huge for the Huskies, stopping the shot as play resumed.

Seattle hit another post in the second overtime session, but the Huskies were able to clear the ball out of the danger area. The Huskies had a corner kick and Gustavo Alvarado's header attempt went just wide.

HBU outshot Seattle, 22-17, in the match. Tyrpak had match highs of nine shots and three shots on goal. Suarez made three saves in goal.

Gonzalez, Seattle's leading scorer coming into the match, led the Redhawks with four shots. Feener, who leads the nation in saves, added six more tonight.

HBU (7-6-2, 2-4-2 WAC) will host San Jose State Sunday at 1 pm.
