Box Score
KANSAS CITY, Mo. –
Patrick Toh scored his first goal as a member of the Huskies, recorded a career-high three points, and helped lead HBU to its fifth-straight win, as the Huskies rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat UMKC, 2-1, Saturday evening from Durwood Soccer Stadium.
The five straight wins tie the longest streak since the program's resurrection back in 2006. The feat has been accomplished two other times, with the most recent coming in the 2010 campaign.
UMKC drew first blood, as reigning WAC Offensive Player of the Week Jordan Rideout scored on a header from eight yards out, assisted from Derek Schrick in the 27th minute.
The Huskies almost got the equalizer less than two minutes later, as
Gustavo Alvarado's shot attempt hit the cross bar.
The two teams entered halftime with UMKC still leading 1-0. The 'Roos doubled up the Huskies in shots, 8-4, and shots on goal, 4-2. Each team had one corner kick.
HBU wasted little time being aggressive in tying the match, as
Kristopher Tyrpak was fouled in the box just 30 seconds into the second half, resulting in a penalty kick. Toh took the PK and converted, resulting in a 1-1 match.
The 'Roos tried to get their lead back, but HBU goalkeeper
Kevin Suarez stopped Rideout's attempt for a second goal.
In the 64th minute, the Huskies put the pressure on again, as
Kyle Herbison's shot went just wide. Just a minute later, the Huskies took a 2-1 lead, as
Thilo Borgmann scored his first goal of the season. Toh fed Borgmann, who scored from 18 yards out into the far left post.
In the 71st minute, UMKC was awarded a corner kick. The 'Roos came ever so close in tying the match, but an HBU defender made a save in an open net, denying Michael Oakley. Seventeen minutes later, Rideout was denied his second goal a second time, as his shot attempt was blocked.
HBU outshot UMKC, 14-6, in the second half and 18-14 in the match. Suarez improved to 2-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the conference, as he made four saves in goal, allowing one goal. UMKC's Chris McGaughey made four saves while allowing two goals.
HBU (6-2-0, 1-0-0) continues WAC play at Grand Canyon on Oct. 11 at 9:15 pm central, then at Air Force on Oct. 13 at 2:30 pm central.
