HOUSTON – One of the nation's top leading scorers, Spencer Valdespino, scored the only goal of the match, as visiting Nicholls State defeated HBU 1-0 Friday evening at Sorrels Field.

Valdespino, who entered tonight's match with 12 goals (T-15 in the nation) and 29 points (T-22 in the nation) scored in the ninth minute, as a turnover deep in HBU territory found Valdespino near the middle of the box and she scored in the lower left corner for an unassisted tally.

HBU had a couple of golden opportunities to tie the match, as there were some chances where the ball was bouncing in the box, but either the Huskies couldn't get a good shot off or Colonel goalkeeper, Amanda Boylson, was in position to make a good save.

Valdespino, who led all players with six shot attempts, nearly scored her second goal of the match, as her shot in the 57th minute hit the post.

HBU had three corner kicks in the final six minutes, with three shot attempts, but could not get one past Boylson.

Shots were even at 16-all, as HBU outshot Nicholls, 8-7, in the first half, and the Colonels had a 9-8 shot advantage in the second half. HBU had a decisive 11-3 advantage in corner kicks, including 6-0 in the first half.

Patty Walrath suffered the loss, as she made three saves. Boylson made 11 saves for the win.

HBU (4-11-1 overall, 3-6-0 SLC)  hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday afternoon at 1 pm at Sorrels Field.
