PHOENIX, Ariz. – The HBU men's soccer team resumes Western Athletic Conference play and concludes a three-match road trip in the process at Grand Canyon Friday at 9:15 pm central and Air Force Sunday at 2:30 pm central.
The meeting between the Huskies and 'Lopes will mark the first-ever, while the series against the Falcons is tied at 2-2-1. The former Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foes last met on Oct. 7, 2012, as HBU defeated Air Force, 3-2, in Houston.
HBU (6-2, 1-0-0 WAC) ran its winning streak to five matches, with a 2-1 win at UMKC on Oct. 5.
Patrick Toh had a three-point match, which earned him WAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.The five straight wins ties the longest stretch since the program's resurrection back in 2006. HBU is currently ranked 51st in the NCAA and 9th in the NSCAA Northwest Region polls.
Tobenna Uzo is tied for the conference lead with seven goals and 14 points.
Kyle Herbison is second on the team with seven points, as he and Toh are tied for the team lead with three assists.
Kevin Suarez is 2-0-0 in goal with a 0.50 goals-against average, a .875 save percentage, and one shutout.
Grand Canyon (1-5-1, 0-0-0 WAC) has not played since a 3-2 loss at Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 28. The 'Lopes' WAC opener at Air Force on Oct. 5 was cancelled due to the government shutdown.
Kyle Ciliento leads GCU with four goals and nine points. Six different players have one assist.
Joshua Zehring is 1-5-1 with a 1.78 GAA and a .649 save percentage.
The biggest surprise in the WAC this season is Air Force (0-8-0, 0-0-0 WAC). A team that won the automatic bid in the 2012 MPSF tournament to reach the NCAAs has yet to win a match so far this season. The latest setback was a 5-1 loss at Cal Poly on Sept. 27. The Falcons host UMKC on Friday before hosting the Huskies.
Zachary Modly and Brian Klazura have scored the only goals for the Falcons. Jake Schenk is 0-6-0, with a 1.99 GAA and a .721 save percentage.
