Men's Basketball Hosts UT-Pan American in Conference Opener

Huskies back home before four-straight road games.

HOUSTON - Houston Baptist hosts Texas-Pan American in the Great West Conference opener for both teams Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym. Free 2012-13 HBU Men's Basketball posters will be given away at the game.
 
The Huskies (4-10) are led by senior forward Art Bernardi, who averages 13.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Tyler Russell averages 12.2 points per game and leads the team with 39 assists.
 
The Broncs (7-10) are led by Brandon Provost, who averages 15.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Aaron Urbanus adds 12.4 points per game and leads UTPA with 72 assists. Justin Leathers leads the Broncs in rebounding with 4.9 boards per contest.
 
UTPA leads the all-time series against HBU, 13-10, but the Huskies won the last meeting between the two teams, 65-58, on March 5, 2012 at Sharp Gym. Center Joe Latas had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies in the victory.
 
HBU plays its next four on the road, first facing Utah Valley in Great West Conference play Saturday in Orem, Utah. The Huskies then face UTEP Monday in El Paso, Texas. Next week, HBU plays Chicago State in a league matchup Jan. 19, before facing UMKC on Jan. 22. Following that stretch, the Huskies will have three-straight home games, the first against Ecclesia on Jan. 26.
