CHICAGO – Chicago State made 15 3-pointers, including five by Quinton Pippen, to down Houston Baptist, 81-56, in Great West Conference action Saturday evening at the Jones Convocation Center.

Dewayne Bowden came off the bench to score a career-high nine points for the Huskies, while freshman forward

Pippen went 7-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-8 from 3-point range to lead Chicago State (6-14, 1-1) with 19 points. Clarke Rosenburg added 12 points, Matt Ross hit three threes and finished with 11 points, while Cory Gray made a pair of 3-pointers and had 10 points. Markus Starks led the Cougars on the glass with six boards.
Chicago State shot 44 percent from the field for the game, but 54 percent (15-for-28) from behind the arc, while HBU shot 38 percent from the field, but only 13 percent (2-for-15) from long range. The Huskies went 16-for-21 from the free-throw line, while the Cougars went 10-for-17. HBU outrebounded Chicago State, 37-34, but the Cougars won the turnover battle, 24-13.
Chicago State got three 3-pointers, two from Pippen and one from Gray in the early going, but HBU countered with Smith scoring three at the line, Bernardi getting inside for a layup and Womack throwing down a one-handed slam as the Cougars led 13-7 with 12:46 to go. Chicago State scored eight-straight as Aaron Williams hit a three, Jamere Dismukes drove inside for a basket and Ross made a three to extended the Cougars' lead to 25-11 with 5:09 remaining.
The Huskies scored the next five on a three by Hill and a pair of free throws by Bernardi, but Pippen buried another from long range and back-to-back three-point plays by Rosenburg put the Cougars ahead, 34-16, with just under a minute left in the half. Rob Lewis' runner at the buzzer for HBU sent the game to halftime with Chicago State holding a 37-20 advantage.
Chicago State shot 46 percent in the first half, but 54 percent (7-fo-13) from 3-point range, while holding HBU to 27 percent from the field and 11 percent (1-of-9) from behind the arc. The Cougars outrebounded the Huskies, 17-15, and forced them into 12 turnovers. Bernardi led the Huskies with six points at the break, while Pippen scored 11 and Williams and Rosenburg each had seven in the opening frame.
The Cougars pushed their lead to 21 on a three by Pippen with 16:42 remaining, but the Huskies scored seven of the next nine, including five-straight by Joyce to make the score, 49-33. Ross hit a three, Williams made a jumper and Ross made a pair of free throws to make the Cougars' lead 56-34. Dismukes made a three to give Chicago State a 23-point lead with 11:09 left, and the Cougars led by as many as 27 in the second half.
The Huskies wrap up their four-game road stretch against UMKC Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
