HOUSTON – After sweeping the conference awards for the second time this season, the Houston Baptist women's soccer team hits the pitch for two home contests this weekend. The Huskies host cross-town rival Texas Southern Friday at 7 pm, then host Prairie View A&M Sunday at 1 pm.
HBU is 5-0-0 lifetime against Texas Southern and 3-1-0 against the Panthers.
HBU (4-5-3) is coming off a 1-0-1 road trip last weekend against a couple of future Southland Conference opponents. HBU defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 1-0, and tied McNeese State, 1-1.
Taylor Gibson had a three-point weekend, assisting on the game-winning goal against the Lions and scoring the game-tying marker against the Cowgirls, earning her Great West Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Natalie Hager leads the Huskies with six goals and 12 points, while Gibson is second with two goals and five points.
Shelby Horn earned her fourth GWC Defensive Player of the Week award after allowing just two goals in 200 minutes last weekend. She is 4-4-2 on the season with a 1.22 GAA and .813 save percentage with three shutouts.
Texas Southern (1-9-0) is on a four-match losing streak after defeating Huston-Tillotson, 2-1, on Sept. 7 in Austin.
Florence Onyera leads the team with six points and is tied for the team lead of two goals with Nancy Cadenas and Gabriella Perales. Marlyn Campa leads the Tigers with three assists.
Rebecca Hajny is 0-3-0 in goal with a GAA 3.07 and a save percentage of .735.
Prairie View A&M (2-7-0) host UH-Victoria Friday night before playing the Huskies Sunday afternoon. The Panthers have gone 2-3 in their last five matches.
Yosselyn Aguilar leads the team with seven points and is tied with Ariana Roundtree with three goals. Katherine Sheppard leads the Panthers with four assists.
Bianca Garza is 2-5-0 with a 2.53 GAA and .735 save percentage.
