Horn and Rodriguez Post-Match Interview (video)
FORT WORTH, Texas –
Shelby Horn made a season-high eight saves, but Houston Baptist had one unlucky bounce which resulted in the only goal of the match and a 1-0 loss to TCU Friday night from Garvey Rosenthal Stadium.
The only goal of the match came in the 72nd minute. At the 71:57-mark, TCU's Rebekah Foreman's shot was blocked. Five seconds later, the ball bounced in the box and off a Husky defender ricocheting into the back of the net for an own goal.
“The girls played very, very well,” said head coach
Misty Jones. “It was a great team effort against a very good Big 12 opponent. We were in the game the whole time and were knocking at the door at the very end of the game. We could have put a couple in. We hit the post early on. It was one of our most complete games we've put together this season. If we continue to work hard and we play like that, we're going to be very successful in the conference.”
Reigning Great West Conference Defender of the Week Horn had a tremendous game in goal, making a season-high eight saves. It was the most saves she made in a game since she stopped eight in a 2-1 win at Grambling State just over a year ago, on Sept. 9, 2011.
TCU outshot HBU 21-8 and 9-5 in shots on goal in the match. The Horned Frogs had a 16-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Natalie Hager led the Huskies with three shots, while both of
Molly Missimer's shots were on target.
Kelly Johnson had a match-high seven shots and three shots on goal for TCU (4-3-1).
Horn took the tough loss, allowing just the one goal and making eight saves. Her counterpart Vittoria Arnold earned the win, making five saves.
HBU (3-4-2) will return home to face Baylor on Sun., Sept. 16 at 7 pm.
