HOUSTON – Houston Baptist returns to the pitch this weekend for two matches. The Huskies travel to Fort Worth to play TCU on Fri., Sept. 14 at 7 pm, then return home to face the Baylor Bears on Sun., Sept. 16 at 7 pm.
HBU is looking for its first win against both teams. The Huskies are 0-5-0 all-time against the Horned Frogs and 0-2-0 against the Bears. TCU won the previous meeting, 3-0, last season in Houston, while HBU and Baylor have not met since a 6-0 Baylor win in Waco early in the 2010 campaign.
HBU (3-3-2) went 1-0-1 in two road matches last weekend, defeating Northwestern State 3-1, then tying Lamar, 1-1, in two overtimes. The Huskies and Cardinals have tied in two of the first three meetings. With the match tied at one against the Lady Demons,
Natalie Hager scored twice in a 19-minute span, later earning her both Great West Conference Offensive Player of the Week and College Sports Madness Conference Player of the Week honors.
Hager leads the conference in both goals (5) and points (10).
Molly Missimer is second in points with four, while
Arielle Rodriguez leads the team with three assists.
Shelby Horn is 3-2-2 with a 0.94 goals-against average, which is the second-lowest in the conference. Horn made 13 saves for the second-straight weekend and earned her third GWC Defensive Player of the Week award. She has allowed just seven goals in 670 minutes.
TCU (3-3-1) split home matches last weekend, losing to SMU, 2-1, on Sept. 7 and defeating Texas State, 3-0, on the 9th.
Mackenzie Koch leads the team in both points (8) and assists (4), while Monica Alvarado leads the Horned Frogs with three goals.
Vittoria Arnold leads the goalkeepers with a 0.67 goals-against average, allowing just four goals in 520 minutes.
Baylor (6-1-1) hosts SMU on Friday before playing the Huskies. The Bears went 1-0-1 in two road matches last weekend, tying North Texas 0-0 on the 7th and defeating UTSA 4-0 on the 9th.
Dana Larsen leads the Bears in both goals (4) and points (9). Kat Ludlow is second in goals (3) and points (8), while Jordan Hatler leads the team with three assists.
Michelle Kloss has a 0.40 GAA, allowing just three goals in 667 minutes.
