LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Cindy Hedden scored in the 88th minute to cut Houston Baptist's deficit to one, but it was too little too late for the Huskies as they fell to Loyola Marymount, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

“We were a bit sluggish in the first half,” said head coach Misty Jones. “LMU was a very physical team.”

LMU struck first just nine minutes into the contest, as Madison Heilmann scored from 40 yards out unassisted.

The Lions increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Darien Pyka, assisted by Amanda Dudley in the 79th minute. Pyka's shot hit the top left part of the net.

Less than 10 minutes later, HBU got on the board, as Hedden scored, assisted by Arielle Rodriguez. On a free kick, Rodriguez kicked the ball and Hedden headed it into the back of the net.

“We played a better second half,” said Jones. “We scored a very nice goal late in the game. Then we started putting pressure on them. It was a good team effort, we just fell a little short today. The girls worked hard this weekend.”

LMU outshot HBU 14-7 overall and 7-5 in shots on goal.

Shelby Horn suffered her first loss of the season, as she made five saves. Brittany Jagger earned the win, making three saves.

HBU (2-2-0) will host Texas State and Stephen F. Austin next weekend, on Fri., Aug. 31 at 7 pm and Sun., Sept. 2 at 1 pm, respectively.
