RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Houston Baptist shut out its second opponent in the first three matches of the season, as Natalie Hager was all the scoring Shelby Horn needed, as the Huskies defeated host UC Riverside, 1-0, Friday evening from UC Riverside Soccer Stadium.

"This was a fantastic team effort," said head coach Misty Jones. "Everyone played hard and fought to the end. It is great to get a win on the road against a good team."

Hager's goal in the 76th minute broke a scoreless stalemate between the Huskies and Highlanders. Arielle Rodriguez and Brandi Hart assisted on the eventual game winner. Following a foul on UC Riverside, Rodriguez took the free kick and Hart headed the ball to Hager, who banged it home.

The Huskies then withstood a barrage by the Highlanders in the final 16 minutes, as UC Riverside had two shots go wide, one shot go high, one shot blocked, two corner kicks, and a Husky team save by Rebecca Jardon in the final three minutes of the match.

Horn earned her second win in as many starts, making four saves. UC  Riverside outshot HBU 17-8 and 5-2 in shots on goal.

HBU (2-1-0) will conclude the California trip at Loyola Marymount on Sun., Aug. 26 at 2 pm CST.
