Women’s Golf Takes 4th at Islander Classic

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Houston Baptist split the difference of its first two rounds to finish with a 312 and a 54-hole score of 936 after the final round of the Islander Classic Tuesday at the 6,093-yard, par-72 Corpus Christi Country Club.
 
Sophomore Katie Paxton tied for 13th with a toal of 231, closing with a round of 76, while senior Paige Gibson turned in the Huskies' lowest round of the tournament with a 75 to tie for 23rd at 233. Senior Natasha Lee tied for 32nd, closing with an 81 and totaling 238. Junior Kelsey Lou-Hing shot an 83 to tie for 35th at 239, while sophomore Jenny Kang finished with an 80 and tied for 43rd at 243. Sophomore Jessica Ngui competed individually, carded a 78, and tied for 37th at 240.
 
Texas-San Antonio captured the team title with its third-straight round of 296, for a final score of 888. The Roadrunners finished 40 strokes ahead of Lamar, who finished four strokes better than host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished four strokes ahead of HBU, which finished one stroke ahead of Bradley.
 
UTSA's Summer Batiste and Taylor Newlin tied for the individual title at 220. Batiste shot a final-round 71, while Newlin shot 75. They finished one stroke ahead of Amy Anderson, who shared the 36-hole lead with Newlin.
 
The Huskies return to action at the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State March 12-13 at Primm Valley Resort in Primm, Nev.
