Basketball Begins Second Half of Great West Play at Home Against Chicago State

Huskies look to avenge January overtime road loss to Cougars.

HOUSTON - Houston Baptist begins the second half of Great West Conference play when it hosts Chicago State Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
 
The Huskies are led by junior forward Marcus Davis, who averages 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Junior forward Art Bernardi averages 12.5 points and pulls down 4.9 boards per game. Freshman guard Tyler Russell adds 11.3 points per game and scored a career-high 22 points against Ecclesia Saturday. Senior forward Terry Bembry averages 8.2 points per game, but has scored at least 13 points in each of the last six games. Freshman guard Marcel Smith averages 6.5 points per game and leads the team with 61 assists.
 
Jeremy Robinson leads Chicago State with 14.1 points per game and averages 7.3 rebounds per game. Lee Fisher adds 12.9 points and leads the Cougars with 8.0 rebounds per game. Matt Samuels averages 11.3 points per game, while Ardarius Simmons averages 8.6 points per game and leads the team with 73 assists.
 
Chicago State tied the all-time series against HBU at four wins apiece with a 98-95 overtime victory over the Huskies in the first meeting this season on Jan. 21 in Chicago. Robinson led the Cougars with 22 points and 13 rebounds, while Simmons had 20 points. Aaron Williams also had a double-double for Chicago State with 19 points -- 17 in the first half -- and 11 rebounds. Bembry led six Huskies in double figures with 20 points to go with eight rebounds. Davis had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while junior guard Anthony Hill and Bernardi had 14 points apiece. Russell and Smith each finished with 10 points.
 
The Huskies return to action when they face NJIT Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
