Basketball Hosts Ecclesia in Final Non-Conference Game

Huskies have three Great West contest remaining at home, two on the road.

HOUSTON - Houston Baptist will play its final non-conference game of the season when it hosts Ecclesia of the National Christian College Athletic Association Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym.

The Huskies are led by junior forward Marcus Davis, who averages 12.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Junior forward Art Bernardi adds 12.0 and 4.8 rebounds per game, while freshman guard Tyler Russell averages 10.9 points per game. Senior forward Terry Bembry is putting up 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, but has scored at least 15 points in each of the last six games. Senior center Joe Latas scores 8.7 points and pulls down 5.1 boards per game, while freshman guard Marcel Smith leads HBU with 57 assists.

In its last game, HBU dropped an 84-76 decision to Bethune-Cookman in the last non-conference road game of the season Wednesday night in Daytona Beach, Fla. Bembry led five Huskies in double figures with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Davis had 13 points and nine rebounds. Smith also had 13 points, while junior guard Anthony Hill and Bernardi pitched in 10 apiece.

HBU and Ecclesia have met one time before, with the Huskies claiming a 91-58 victory over the Royals on Jan. 19, 2008, at Sharp Gym.

The Huskies return to action when they begin the second half of Great West Conference play against Chicago State Thursday at 7:05 p.m., followed by NJIT Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
