DENVER, Colo. – The Denver Pioneers scored early and often in an MPSF contest, scoring four goals in the first half and adding two more in the second for a 6-0 victory over Houston Baptist Friday evening at Ciber Field.
The two teams were completing a home-and-home, as the Huskies and Pioneers tied, 1-1, in double overtime in Houston a week earlier.
In front of a home crowd of over 600, Denver wasted little time getting control of the match, scoring three goals in the first nine minutes, with Zach Bolden scoring the first two goals.
Blake Shannon scored the third goal in the ninth minute, assisted by Josh Wren. After an HBU foul, Wren took the free kick and Shannon flicked the ball into the net.
Wren scored the fourth goal of the half in the 23rd minute, assisted by Malcolm Harris and Drew Beckie. Beckie sent a forwarding pass to Harris, who sent a cross into the box to Wren, who scored.
Denver's final two goals occurred 20 minutes apart. Logan McHugh scored in the 67th minute, unassisted, as he beat the defender and fired a shot past the keeper.
Anees Abdulgasem scored the final goal of the match in the 87th minute, also unassisted, scoring on a free kick from 35 yards out.
Denver outshot HBU, 17-6, in the match, and 9-0 in shots on goal.
Christian Cruz had a team-high three shots.

John McDuffee each had one. McDuffee's shot hit the crossbar in the first half.
Zach Harwerth suffered the loss, allowing six goals and making three saves in 90 minutes.
Shannon and Wren each had three-point matches, while Harris and Bolden had two-point matches. Wren led the Pioneers with three shot attempt, and he and Bolden were tied with two shots on goal apiece.
Oliver Brown earned the win, playing in 61:16. Nate Esler played in the final 28:44.
HBU (3-6-1, 1-2-1 MPSF) will conclude the Colorado trip at Air Force Sunday at 2 pm CST.
