HOUSTON – Houston Baptist junior forward
Marcus Davis scored 40 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead six players in double figures as the Huskies ran past Crowley's Ridge, 123-43, for the largest margin of victory in school history Thursday night at Sharp Gym.
Davis went 15-of-25 from the field, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, and 5-of-5 from the line and added four steals for the Huskies (6-10). His 40-point effort is the 13th in school history and has only been accomplished by seven players. The last player to score 40 or more in a game was when Rod Nealy set the school record with 52 points against Huston-Tillotson on Jan. 16, 2003.

Aaron Asp scored his first career field goal and finished with four points.
Skylor Blackler had a double-double for the Pioneers (1-14), while Josh Longino added 11 points and six boards. Blake Wheeler added seven points and four assists.
The Huskies shot 57 percent from the field for the game and hit 87 percent (19-of-22) from the free throw line, while holding the Pioneers to 25 percent shooting, including 10 percent (2-of-20) from behind the arc. Crowley's Ridge made 11-of-19 from the charity stripe. HBU outrebounded Crowley's Ridge, 55-34, and outscored them, 27-8, in second-chance opportunities. The Huskies forced the Pioneers into 30 turnovers, converting them into 44 points. HBU also outscored Crowley's Ridge, 76-22, in the paint and 14-0 on fastbreaks.
HBU held Crowley's Ridge without a field goal for the first 6:38 and Davis scored 11 of the Huskies' first 19 points as they jumped out to a 19-6 lead. The Huskies held the Pioneers scoreless for 5:46 as they went on a 20-0 to take a 43-11 lead. Cooper hit a three for Crowley's Ridge at the 11:13 mark, and the Pioneers did not hit another field goal until Wheeler's floater in the lane dropped with 2:59 left in the first half.
Crowley's Ridge hit four-straight shots in the last three minutes to get within 29, but Davis scored 13 points over the last six minutes as HBU went into the break with a 56-23 lead. The Huskies shot 49 percent for the half, while forcing the Pioneers to commit 16 turnovers and shoot only 23 percent.
Davis hit 10-of-16 from the field and had 26 points and 10 rebounds at the half, while Hill added eight. Cooper led Crowley's Ridge with six points at the break.
The Huskies outscored the Pioneers 32-2 to start the second half, as Davis opened with a putback layup and a three, then found Latas for a breakaway dunk. Russell grabbed an offensive board and got the putback, then hit a pair of free throws, made a steal and found Davis for a thunderous one-handed slam. Latas blocked a shot, grabbed the rebound and found Hill streaking down court for a fastbreak layup to complete a 15-0 run.
After Blackler got Crowley's Ridge on the board in the second half, Hill nailed a three, Russell and Davis made layups and Latas powered inside for back-to-back buckets as HBU went on a 17-0 run to open up a 88-25 lead.
Blackler hit the first field goal for Crowley's Ridge 6:21 into the second half, and the Pioneers scored on three-straight possessions, but Bernardi scored six points as part of a 10-2 spurt that extended the Huskies' lead to 100-33. Freshman guard

HBU's previous record for margin of victory came in a 79-point win over Dallas Christian on Feb. 10, 1998, where the Huskies defeated the Crusaders, 115-36. HBU's six wins this season surpasses last season's win total.
The Huskies return to action when they hit the road to begin Great West Conference play against NJIT Thursday, followed by Chicago State Saturday.
