Basketball Takes on Crowley's Ridge in Final Tuneup Before Great West Play

Huskies host Pioneers, then hit the road to face NJIT, Chicago State.

HOUSTON - Houston Baptist hosts Crowley's Ridge in its final tuneup before Great West Conference play Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
 
The Huskies (5-10) are led by junior forward Art Bernardi, who averages 12.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Tyler Russell averages 11.5 points per game, while junior forward Marcus Davis adds 11.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Senior center Joe Latas scores 9.6 points and leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per contest. Freshman guard Marcel Smith averages 7.1 points and leads the team with 35 assists.
 
Blake Wheeler leads the Pioneers (1-13) with 11.7 points per game, while Ryan Miller pitches in with 10.2 points per game. Skylor Blackler adds 7.6 points and leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. Josh Longino led Crowley's Ridge with 18.1 points per game, before missing the last seven games.
 
The contest marks the first meeting between HBU and Crowley's Ridge, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Prior to Thursday night's game, there will be a special presentation honoring head coach Ron Cottrell for his 400th career victory.
 
The Huskies return to action on the road when they face NJIT Jan. 19 and Chicago State Jan. 21.
