HOUSTON – In the first match of the regular season for both teams, Houston Baptist came out victorious, defeating visiting McNeese State, 2-0, before a sold-out crowd Friday evening at Sorrels Field.
Shelby Horn played all 90 minutes, allowing zero goals while making six saves.
Johna Germany led the Cowgirls with two shots on goal. Kaitlin Seeber started the match and played 67 minutes, making three saves and allowing both goals. Cassandra Read played the remaining 23 minutes and made one save.
The two teams entered halftime tied at zero. The Huskies picked up some momentum as Hager scored her first collegiate goal at the 47th minute, as she sent a floater over the head of Seeber and into the net.
Six minutes later, in the 53rd minute, Missimer scored on a corner kick sent in by Rodriguez.
The win by the Huskies is the first since officially back in NCAA Division I and the first ever over the Cowgirls, as McNeese State now leads the all-time series, 2-1-1.
HBU (1-0) will head to Sam Houston State to face the Bearkats on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 7 pm.
