HOUSTON - Houston Baptist hosts the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Great West Conference basketball Thursday at 7:35 p.m. at Sharp Gym. The audio broadcast will be available on HBUHuskies.com, while the live video broadcast will be streamed on FoxSportsHouston.com.
HBU senior guard Andrew Gonzalez has the eighth-highest scoring average in the nation and leads the conference with 22.7 points per game. Senior guard Michael Moss averages 9.0 points per game, has one of the top 10 steals per game averages in the country at 2.8, and ranks second in the league in assists. Junior forward Terry Bembry averages 9.0 points per game and leads the Huskies (3-21, 2-6 GWC) with 6.8 rebounds per game.
NJIT has three of the top 10 scorers in the Great West as Jheryl Wilson and Isaiah Wilkerson average 13.3 points per game, while Chris Flores follows closely with 13.2 points per game. Wilkerson also ranks among the top 10 in rebounding with 6.2 per game.
The Huskies lead the all-time series against the Highlanders, 5-1, but NJIT won this season's previous meeting, 96-84, Jan. 15 in Newark, N.J. Gonzalez scored 27 points, while Moss had a career high 24 points for HBU, but Wilkerson led four NJIT players in double figures with 23 points. The Huskies won all three meetings last season, including a second-round victory in the Great West Tournament, and both meetings during the 2008-09 season.
HBU returns to action when it hosts Middle Tennessee in a non-conference matchup Tuesday at 7:35 p.m.
