HOUSTON - Houston Baptist will play five of its last six regular season games at home, beginning with Sunday's non-conference matchup against East Texas Baptist at 2:05 p.m.
Senior guard Andrew Gonzalez has the eighth-highest scoring average in the nation and leads the Great West Conference with 22.5 points per game. He has scored at least 20 points in 10 of the last 12 games, including the last six and all eight conference games. Senior guard Michael Moss averages 9.1 points per game and leads the Great West in both assists per game (4.2) and steals per game (2.8). Junior forward Terry Bembry also averages 9.1 points per game and leads teh Huskies (3-20) with 6.7 rebounds per game.
East Texas Baptist (14-6), a member of the Division III American Southwest Conference, has four players averaging in double figures, led by Jeremy LaGarde, who averages 14.9 points per game. Josh Chambers averages 13.8 points per game, while Deba Egharevba averages 12.8 points and leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per game. Jacob Turnipseed averages 11.9 points per game.
The Tigers are one of the Huskies' most-played rivals, with HBU leading the all-time series, 14-7. The two schools have not met, however, in eight years, with the Huskies claiming a 104-87 victory in the last meeting in 2003.
HBU returns to Great West Conference play when it hosts NJIT Thursday at 7:35 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
