Basketball Battles Santa Clara in Last Home Game Before New Year

Huskies face Broncos for fourth-straight year before 10-day Christmas break.

Senior forward Terry Bembry and the Huskies host Santa Clara Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Bembry had a standout performance in HBU's last home game -- an 87-76 victory over Campbell.

HOUSTON - Houston Baptist hosts Santa Clara as the two schools renew their rivalry for the fourth-straight season, Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym. The Broncos have won all three previous meetings, including last year's 90-67 decision in Santa Clara, Calif.

The Huskies (4-7) are led by junior forwards Art Bernardi (15.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and Marcus Davis (13.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg), as well as three other players who average in double figures: freshman guards Tyler Russell (11.7 ppg) and Ronald March Jr. (10.3 ppg) and senior center Joe Latas (10.0 ppg), who leads the team at 6.0 rebounds per game. Junior guard Anthony Hill has come off the bench to score in double figures in each of the last three games, including a career-high 16 points in Saturday's loss at No. 24 Creighton.

Santa Clara (7-3) is led by Houston-area product junior guard Kevin Foster, who went to Katy's Morton Ranch High School, and averages 17.8 points per game. Sophomore guard Evan Roquemore adds 14.9 points per game, while junior forward Niyi Harrison puts up 9.9 points and leads the team at 6.5 rebounds per contest.

The Huskies will take 10 days off for Christmas break, then gear up for a tough road trip against Duquesne on Dec. 31 in Pittsburgh, followed by New Mexico Jan. 3 in Albuquerque.
