Whittleman Becomes First Husky with 2,000 Digs in Victory Over Stephen F. Austin

Huskies sweep Southland Conference with 8-0 record for the season.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Houston Baptist University senior libero Courtney Whittleman had 24 digs to give her 2,001 for her career and become the first player in school history to reach 2,000 career digs as the Huskies started slow, but rebounded to down Stephen F. Austin State, 3-1 (16-25, 28-26, 25-21, 25-17) in non-conference volleyball Wednesday night at Shelton Gym.
 
With the victory in its final non-conference contest, HBU completed a season sweep of the Southland Conference, boasting and 8-0 record against the league.
 
HBU senior rightside hitter Isis Gardner hit .375 for the match and led the Huskies (18-6) with 14 kills and only two errors. Freshman outside hitter Bailey Keith added her first career double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Senior middle blocker Jolie Graf and junior outside hitter Heather Leaverton each had eight kills, while Graf added three blocks and Leaverton had 12 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Caiti Wenger added seven kills.
 
Junior setter Victoria Weatherly racked up her team-leading 11th double-double with 38 assists and 15 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Haley Hoffman was also one of five Huskies with double-digit digs with a career-high 13.
 
Jill Ivy led SFA (11-13) with 11 kills, while Mary Caitlin Bottles had 10. Katzy Randall recorded eight kills and 19 digs. Paige Holland posted a double-double with 35 assists, 16 digs and four kills. Madison Hanlan led the Ladyjacks with 22 digs, while Melissa Miksch chipped in with 16.
 
The Huskies hit .144 for the match, while holding the Ladyjacks to .118. SFA outdug HBU, 86-80, and outblocked the Huskies, 5-4.
 
HBU has five Great West Conference matches remaining, beginning with a road trip to North Dakota and Utah Valley Oct. 27 and 29, followed by three-straight at home to finish out the year.
