BRADENTON, Fla. – Houston Baptist University senior
Paige Gibson fired a 54-hole total 224 to finish third and lead the Huskies to a team third-place finish at the USF Waterlefe Invitational Tuesday at the 6,059-yard, par-72 Waterlefe Golf & River Club.
Gibson held a share of the lead at 1-over par after the first two rounds Monday, but shot 79 to drop to third. Junior
Kelsey Lou-Hing also finished among the top 10, shooting a team-leading final-round 74 to tie for seventh at 230. Sophomore
Jessica Ngui finished 12th with a total of 233, including a final-round 82. Sophomore
Jenny Kang carded a 79 and tied for 21st at 237, while senior
Natasha Lee shot 76 to tie for 24th at 238.
The Huskies turned in team scores of 305, 303 and 308 for a total of 916 for the tournament. Host South Florida captured the team title with a score of 895, 17 strokes ahead of second-place Southern Mississippi. South Florida's Christina Miller claimed medalist honors with a score of 3-over par 219, one stroke ahead of teammate Amy West.
HBU will play its final event of the fall at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial Oct. 17-18 at Rivercut Golf Club in Springfield, Mo.
