ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Houston Baptist will compete in the Great Alaska Shootout for the first time in school history as it looks for its first win of the young season.
Senior guard Andrew Gonzalez leads the Huskies (0-3) with 25.5 points per game to go with 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game. The Great West Conference Preseason Player of the Year has scored at least 20 points in five straight games dating back to last season. Junior forward Terry Bembry is the Huskies' leading rebounder with 9.3 boards per contest and is the third-leading scorer with 10.3 points per game. Sophomore guard Miles Dixon is second on the team with 12.0 points per game.
HBU opens the 33rd edition of the Shootout against Arizona State (1-1) Thanksgiving night at 8 CDT. The Sun Devils are led by guard Trent Lockett, who averages 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Ty Abbott and Kyle Cain also average in double figure points for ASU. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Net Arizona (DirecTV 686) and MASN (640).
The Huskies also play Friday against either Weber State or host Alaska-Anchorage and Saturday against an opponent yet to be determined.
