HBU Inducts Four Individuals and One Team in to Hall of Honor

HBU has announced the induction of four individuals and the 1985 4x800 men's relay team in to the HBU Sports Hall of Honor.

The Hall of Honor welcomed its first class of inductees in 1997 and honors former Husky athletes and coached for their success at HBU.

2009 HBU Sports Hall of Honor Inductees

Laura Hess (Softball, 2003-06)

Larry Hollins (Basketball, 1981-84)

Steve Kinnett (Men's Gymnastics, 1974-78)

Dave Mannen (Golf Coach, 1975-91)

1985 4x800 Men's Track & Field Relay (Charlie Foreman, Lowell Jones, Nureldin Ramirez, Alfredo Lahuerta)

Laura Hess was named National Pitcher of the year in 2004, a season in which she posted a record of 22-6 with a 1.00 earned run average.  She was a three-time All-America selection and led the Huskies to four consecutive Red River Athletic Conference championships.  Hess is at the top of the all-time strikeouts and shutouts lists at HBU, is second in wins, complete games and innings pitched and is fourth all-time in ERA.

Larry Hollins was a senior on the 1983-84 basketball team that reached the NCAA tournament.  He was a two-time All-Trans America Athletic Conference selection while playing for coach Gene Iba.  He appeared in 110 games and started 87 in four seasons.  His 175 career steals is good for third all-time at HBU.  He also earned the E.C. Coleman MVP award in 1982-83 and twice won the Dale  Glover Defensive award.

Steve Kinnett was a four-time NCAA qualifier in the still rings during his time at HBU.  Kinnett helped bring national exposure to the HBU men's gymnastics program for his performance, which was all the more remarkable considering he suffered the loss of a leg in the eighth grade.

Dave Mannen spent 16 years coaching golf at HBU and earned Trans America Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors eight years in row from 1982 until 1989.  During his tenure at HBU, Mannen coached the Huskies to five TAAC championships and produced four TAAC Players of the Year.  Seven men and two women earned All-America honors under his watch.  Mannen is the first individual to be inducted in to the HBU Hall of Honor as a coach.

The 1985 4x800 relay team featuring Charlie Foreman, Lowell Jones, Nureldin Ramirez and Alfredo Lahuerta completed that season ranked eighth in the USA with a best time of 7:20.66.  They also ranked 15th in indoors.  The team recorded its season best time at the Texas Relays where they placed third.  They also won the Domino's Pizza Relays and the TSU Relays that season.  Lahuerta also ranked eighth in the US indoors in the 800 and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships as an individual.
