HBU INDUCTS 11 INTO SPORTS HALL OF HONOR

Director of Athletics Ron Cottrell has announced that HBU has inducted 11 into its Sports Hall of Honor.

The HBU Sports Hall of Honor had its first induction class in 1997 and honors former athletes and coaches for their success while competing for the Huskies.

Following are the 2008 HBU Sports Hall of Honor inductees:

Morgan Anderson (Softball, 2003-05)

Dr. Ed Billings (Director of Athletics, 1966-90)

Griffin Colvert (Women's Basketball, 2000-04)

Katelyn Griffin (Softball, 2002-05)

Darryl Henning (Golf, 1983-85)

Michael LeBlanc (Basketball, 1999-2000, 2001-02)

Jared Moon (Baseball, (1993-95)

Tim Thelen (Golf, 1983-85)

Sergio Uribe (Soccer, 1982-85)

Nancy Wataka (Volleyball, 2005-06)

Nicole Westerterp (Volleyball, 2003-06)

Morgan Anderson played softball for the Huskies from 2003-05 and was an All-America selection as a senior. She helped the Huskies to a 142-25 record, three Red River Athletic Conference championships, three appearances at the NAIA National Tournament and three Top Four final national rankings. In addition to her All-America honor, Anderson was a two-time All-Conference and All-Region selection.

Dr. Ed Billings served the Huskies as HBU's first athletic director from 1966-90. Billings was instrumental in guiding HBU athletics from its initial beginning as a small college program to a member of NCAA Division I and played a major role in the formation of the Trans America Athletic Conference where the Huskies competed from 1979 until 1989.

Griffin Colvert played women's basketball for the Huskies from 2000-04, leading HBU to a 130-21 record over four seasons. During Colvert's tenure, the Huskies won four Red River Athletic Conference championships, four RRAC Tournament titles and competed in four NAIA National Tournaments, making the Elite Eight twice and the NAIA Final Four in 2004. She was an All-Conference selection and was chosen Academic All-America and HBU's Athlete of the Year as a senior.

Katelyn Griffin was an HBU softball player from 2002-05. During her time in the orange and blue, Griffin led the Huskies to a 185-39 record and was a three-time All-America, All-Region and All-Conference honoree. She was chosen as the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2003.

Darryl Henning played golf for the Huskies from 1983-85. He was a two time All-America selection and a three-time All-Trans America Conference honoree, including being honored as the TAAC Player of the Year.

Michael LeBlanc played basketball for HBU in 1999-2000 and again in 2001-02 and was an All-America selection in each season. He twice was chosen All-Red River Athletic Conference and received RRAC Newcomer of the Year honors in 1999-2000. During his two years in a Huskies' uniform, HBU recorded a record of 54-15 and won RRAC titles and competed in the NAIA National Tournament each season.

Jared Moon played baseball for HBU from 1993-95 and helped lead the Huskies to a 110-48 record, a district runner-up finish and a sectional tournament championship. Moon currently serves as head baseball coach for the Huskies.

Tim Thelen played golf for the Huskies from 1983-85. Thelen was selected All-Trans America Athletic Conference in 1983 and helped lead the Huskies to a berth in the NCAA Championships in 1984 with fellow HBU Hall of Honor members Henning, Colin Montgomerie and Coach David Mannen. Thelen is now a PGA professional.

Sergio Uribe played soccer for the Huskies from 1982-85. He was a four-time All-Trans America Athletic Conference honoree and helped the Huskies to a TAAC West Championship and three TAAC tournament titles while posting a 46-12-5 record in his four seasons.

Nancy Wataka played on the HBU volleyball team from 2005-06. In her two seasons, the Huskies posted a 76-13 record, winning two NAIA Region Championships, a Red River Athletic Conference tournament title and played in two NAIA National Tournaments. Wataka was a two-time All-Conference selection and an Academic All-America honoree as a senior.

Nicole Westerterp was a member of the HBU volleyball team from 2003-06 and was a four-time All-America honoree, as well as a four-time All-Region and All-Conference selection. She was twice chosen RRAC Player of the Year and Front Row Specialist of the Year. During her four seasons, the Huskies posted a record of 156-28, won two RRAC Championships, two RRAC tournaments, three Region Championships and competed in four NAIA National Tournaments.
