JONES TAKEN 33rd IN CBA DRAFT

Two-time All-America chosen by East Kentucky Miners

Albany, New York ---- Houston Baptist University's Dwight Jones II was selected in the fourth round of the Continental Basketball Association draft on Tuesday night. The East Kentucky Miners made Jones the 33rd overall selection as well as the first player drafted by a professional association during Ron Cottrell's tenure at HBU.

Jones II was selected to the first team of the NAIA All-America squad this past year, making him the fifth two-time All-American in school history.

The two-time Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year averaged 20.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals while shooting 47.9 percent from the floor this year. His 603 points made him just the sixth player in school history to surpass 600 points in a single season, and he is just the fifth player to average over 20 points per game in Ron Cottrell's 16 years at the helm, the ninth overall.

He averaged 18.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in two seasons for the Huskies, leading them to back-to-back RRAC championships and NAIA Tournament appearances. He was eighth in the country this season in scoring average and ranks fifth in single-season scoring average. His 1166 points in two seasons places him 18th on the all-time charts, and he hit 92 three-pointers in two seasons to rank 10th in that category as well.

The Miners are located in Pikeville, Kentucky and are coached by Kevin Keathley, who most recently was an assistant coach with the CBA's franchise in the Rio Grande Valley.

The CBA has been in existence since 1946 and has long been considered the top minor league for the NBA. Such coaching luminaries include Phil Jackson, George Karl and the late Bill Musselman. There are many standout players who made it to the NBA, such as currently active stars as Raja Bell and Stephen Jackson. Former HBU assistant coach Greg Grissom played five years in the CBA for all three of the coaches listed previously.
