Becca Allison is in her seventh year with the HBU women's basketball program, having recently been promoted to Associate Head Coach after serving as an assistant coach after her two years as the programs graduate assistant.
2021-22 was a record breaking season for HBU women’s basketball as the Huskies won their first Southland Conference regular season title in program history and finished with a conference record of 12-2. The team qualified for the WNIT and played their first D1 postseason game in program history against the Toledo Rockets in Toledo, Ohio.
Timia Jefferson was named player of the year for the Southland leading her team to the regular season title. Coach Finnie was named Coach of the Year while Coach Allison was voted the top D1 assistant in Texas by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Kennedy Wilson and Julija Vujakovic were named Second Team All-Conference while Marilyn Nzoiwu was named to the All-Defensive team.
Off the floor the Huskies had a program-record five players named to the Southland All-Academic teams. Vujakovic and Jefferson were named to the first-team while Wilson, Nzoiwu and Abbey Sutherland were named second team. The Huskies also placed 22nd on the WBCA Academic Top-25 list with a 3.621 team GPA.
Allison plays a large role in the Huskies’ recruiting effort; contributing to the successful recruitment of players from both Texas and abroad. In addition to the major metropolitan areas in Texas (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin), Becca has contributed to the successful recruitment of international players from Germany, Australia, Uzbekistan, Austria, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland and Luxembourg. On the court, Allison works primarily with the guards, focusing on skill development and individual film sessions. She is also in charge of game scheduling, academic oversight, and oversees team study halls.
Also serving as an academic liaison, Allison oversees academic progress and sets up tutors when necessary. During her tenure, the Huskies have been exceptional in the classroom. Starting in her first season, the team posted a combined 3.6 GPA in the second semester, which included five players earning a perfect 4.0. This was the strongest academic performance, top to bottom, since the founding of the program. All 13 players on the Huskies' roster earned at least a 3.0 GPA, which netted them all spots on the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. This was the first time in the history of the program that every member of the team has made the All-Conference Honor Roll. At the conclusion of the academic year the Huskies were recognized nationally, earning their first ever selection to the WBCA Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll, finishing with the 12th highest team GPA in Division I with a combined 3.514 GPA in 2013-14. In 2014-15 the Huskies continued their commitment to academic excellence, earning their second consecutive selection to the WBCA Academic Top-25 Honor Roll; this time finishing 17th in the nation with a 3.445 combined team GPA. After graduating five great students in the 2015 class there was the potential for a slip up in the classroom, but this year’s team is continuing the program’s exceptional academic tradition. In the first semester, the Huskies posted their highest ever team GPA (3.65) putting the team on pace for third consecutive WBCA Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll selection. HBU finished with a team GPA of 3.612, good for fifth nationally. The huskies finished the 2016-17 year strong academically with a team GPA of 3.43.
A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Allison came to Houston from Old Dominion University, where she was a four-year letter winner for the Monarchs basketball team from 2010-14. She was Academic Athlete of the Year her sophomore. Allison was team captain her senior year and was also named the Conference USA Spirit of Service Award recipient. She earned her degree in sport management with a minor in marketing from ODU in 2014, then earned her Master's degree in education from HBU in May 2016.
Allison has represented both Great Britain and Scotland in the European Championships. She averaged over 10 points a game in the European “B” Championships. She also represented Great Britain in the World University Games in China in 2011. Playing for the COE Kool Kats in Edinburgh prior to her US move, Allison and her team won the Scottish National League and the Scottish Cup. She was named MVP every year since 2006-07 and earned Women’s Player of the Year accolades in 2008-09.
