Keith Berard

Keith Berard returned to the HBU men’s basketball staff in September of 2016 after serving his first stint with the Huskies from 2007-12 and is now in his 10th season at HBU.
 
Berard helped the 2016-17 Huskies to the program’s most successful campaign since returning to Division I as they went 17-14 overall and and 12-6 in league play to tie for second and earn the fourth seed in the Southland Conference Tournament. HBU closed the regular season with nine-straight victories and reached postseason play for the second-consecutive year, receiving a bid to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament where the Huskies faced Campbell.
 
He spent three years (2013-16) coaching at Episcopal High School in Houston, after one season (2012-13) as an assistant coach at Weber State in Ogden, Utah. During his five seasons at HBU, he assisted in on-the-floor coach, recruiting, academics and served as the camp coordinator for the Ron Cottrell Husky Basketball Camps. Prior to his first stint with the Huskies, Berard served as an assistant coach at Texas Southern, where he helped the Tigers to the Southwestern Athletic Conference title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2003.
 
A Houston native, who played at St. Thomas High School, Berard spent three seasons as assistant coach at College of Eastern Utah and one at Howard College. After playing two seasons at Weatherford College for former Husky Mark Osina, he finished his career with two seasons at Southern Utah from 1993-95, helping lead the Thunderbirds to the American West Conference championship in 1995 and earning first-team all-conference and Team MVP honors. Berard ranks among SUU all-time top 10 in 3-point percentage, assists and steals.
 
Berard earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Southern Utah in 1996, then played professionally in Switzerland in 1997.
 
He and his wife, Sabrina, have two daughters, Katelyn Dion and Khloe Dion.
