2016 (Freshman): McDonald did not see action and received a redshirt his first year at HBU...made the Dean's List and the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
 
High School: Was a three-year letterwinner, playing two years at Friendswood High School, before finishing his career at Lutheran South Academy for Coach Aaron Schneider…as a senior, went 8-1 with a 0.68 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 60.2 innings, while also hitting .372 to lead the Pioneers to the TAPPS 4A state title…was named Houston Hitter of the Week, Houston Pitcher of the Week and Houston Player of the Week…was an all-district and all-state selection at pitcher and third base…also earned all-state academic honors…as a junior, went 7-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 46.2 innings to earn all-district accolades…also played football.
