John Cannon is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Huskies.
Cannon comes to HCU after spending six seasons as an assistant coach at Wharton County Junior College in Wharton, Texas, assisting with the pitchers and catchers.
During his time with the Pioneers, he helped with the development of Brian Panneton and Rome Shubert, who were each named as the Region 14 Pitcher of the Year and to the JUCO All-American teams, as well as aiding in the development of Region 14 Player of the Year Ben Columbus
Prior to WCJC, Cannon was the Head Coach at Faith West Academy High School in Katy, Texas.
Cannon was a three-year starter at the University of Houston, graduating in 2012 with a degree in Sports Administration. Following his career with the Cougars, he drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers and played for six seasons in their minor league system. This included four seasons as a catcher and then two as a pitcher, making a stint in Triple-A Albuquerque in 2014.
The native of Hutto, Texas was an All-State selection for the Hippos in 2008.
He is married to Natalie and the couple have one son, Taysom.
