HOUSTON – HCU women's soccer, after scoring just two goals in the first five games of the season, has scored 19 goals over a six-match unbeaten streak as the Huskies are fully into the Southland Conference portion of the schedule with Stephen F. Austin coming to town this Thursday evening for a 7:00 p.m. matchup at Sorrels Field.
HCU (5-3-3, 1-0-1 SLC) has scored at least three goals in five of the last six outings, most recently recording a dominant 4-1 road win over UT Rio Grande Valley this past Sunday. Sophomore Paisley Barela scored a pair of goals in that win and during the recent six-game stretch has five goals and two assists.
Goalkeeper Emmy McKeon has a 1.41 goals against average this season with 37 saves and one shutout. Her 17 career wins put her in fifth on the HCU all-time list, just three shy of reaching the top three. Additionally, her 206 career saves are fourth-most in program history and just 19 away from moving up to second all-time.
SFA (4-8, 1-2 SLC) comes into Thursday's game having lost its last two, a 4-3 loss at home to Northwestern State and a 3-2 defeat on the road against McNeese. The Ladyjacks had won three-straight prior to those two losses. This past Sunday, in the loss to the Lady Demons, SFA took a 3-2 lead but NSU scored twice in the final 18 minutes to take the win.
Sophomore Alyce Chappelle leads SFA and is tied for second in the Southland with seven goals this season, including two game-winners. Savanna Oberholtzer and Lucie Platt are tied for second on the team with four goals each. Brandie Musser has played the majority of the minutes in goal and has started every match and has a goals against average of 2.77 with a .684 save percentage.
Thursday is a rematch from the 2025 SLC Championship matchup that saw the Huskies earn a 1-0 overtime victory to claim the conference championship and earn their spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies are 5-12 all-time against the Ladyjacks.
Up next on the schedule for the Huskies will be a home meeting with the Southeastern Lady Lions on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5:00 p.m.
