HOUSTON – After playing the first two games of the year away from home, the HCU women's soccer team is set to open the home portion of its schedule this Thursday at Sorrels Field against the Rice Owls with a 5:00 p.m. kick-off.
The Huskies (1-1) earned their first win of the season this past Sunday, defeating Texas Southern, 1-0, across town at Durley Stadium. Senior Isabella Dillow headed home the game-winner against TSU in the 63rd minute on a corner sent into the box by Isabella Alamo.
The Owls (1-1) dropped their season opener at home to Texas A&M, 2-1, before picking up a 3-0 road win at Pittsburgh last Saturday. Rice goalkeeper Kirsten Ruf earned American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors, finishing with 10 saves in two games while also getting credited with an assist.
The Huskies and Owls met across town at Holloway Field to open the 2025 season with Rice winning, 2-1. HCU goalkeeper Emmy McKeon set a career-high with 10 saves in the loss. The last time the two teams met at Sorrels Field was during the 2021 season with HCU taking a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute but ultimately falling, 2-1, after pair of Rice goals in the final 20 minutes.
HCU will have a week off before hosting Louisiana Tech at Sorrels Field on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 5:00 p.m.
