HOUSTON – Houston Christian University returns to action on Sunday afternoon, heading across town to face Texas Southern University at Durley Stadium. Kick-off versus the Tigers is set for 1 pm.
The Huskies are coming off a season-opening defeat at the hands of the University of Texas, falling 3-0 in Austin on Wednesday night. The Longhorns scored just over two minutes into the contest and again eight minutes before the intermission to grab a 2-0 lead. A late 84th minute tally provided the final score.
Emmy McKeon made four saves in her season debut in the woodwork, while
Zylee Dominguez posted all three of HCU's shot attempts. 25 players saw action in the season opener for HCU, the defending Southland Conference champions.
TSU claimed victory in its season opener on Wednesday, a 2-0 decision over UTRGV in Edinburg. Jiselle Caffey scored her first collegiate goal in the 10th minute and Alana Aiken aided a second goal early in the second half before the Tigers held off the Vaqueros down the stretch.
The Tigers are led by second-year head coach Danesha Adams, who led TSU to a 7-9-4 record last year in her first season at the helm.
HCU holds an 8-0 edge in the all-time series between the cross-town foes. The two schools have not met since 2023, when the Huskies clipped the Tigers 2-0 at Durley Stadium behind goals from Adin Radwanski and
Olivia Rossman.
