BSB: HCU Drops Game Three at A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-2

The Huskies finish the weekend alone in eighth place in the SLC standings

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After taking the first two games of a Southland Conference series on the road against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a doubleheader on Saturday, the HCU baseball team lost, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Chapman Field.

The Huskies (21-25, 12-15 SLC) put runners on base in both the first and second innings but were unable to get a run across. In the bottom of the second, the Islanders (23-24, 11-16 SLC) put up a run on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead. HCU responded in the third after Jack Walker and Katcher Halligan reached on back-to-back singles, leaving runners on first and third. Jeremy Rader then scored Walker with an RBI groundout to even the score.

Cade Sanchez put the hosts back in the lead in the fourth with an RBI single to right field. Austin Russell added another run for TAMUCC with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, making it a 3-1 game. Down to their final six outs, the Huskies got something going in the eighth when Walker reached on a throwing error with one out. Halligan then moved him over to third with a single to left center. Two hitters later, with two outs, Luke Bard lined a single to the outfield to bring Walker across the plate and cut the deficit back down to just one. The HCU comeback attempt stopped there, however, as the Huskies went three-up, three-down in the ninth.

Walker and Halligan both had two-hit games for the Huskies with Walker scoring twice. As a team, HCU out-hit the Islanders, 8 to 6, and stranded seven baserunners while the hosts left just one runner on.

On the mound, Jett Feltman started the game and went two innings with one earned run allowed on one hit. Joshua Caravalho was tagged with the loss, giving up one earned run in two innings with two hits allowed, one strikeout and one walk. Louis Castano threw three innings, scattering three hits while striking out two and allowing an earned run. Ben Norton threw a perfect ninth inning.

The Huskies return to the diamond for their final home series of the year this coming Thursday through Saturday, May 7-9, against the Lamar Cardinals with HCU looking to secure a spot in the 2026 Southland Conference Tournament.
