HOUSTON – HCU beach picked up two 5-0 wins on Tuesday as the Huskies hosted a pair of duals against Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia (TX) for Senior Day at Third Coast Volleyball Club.
HCU (6-19) began the morning against UMHB (19-5) with the first point coming on Court 4 as
Emma Chappell and
Mycah Whittemore earned a 21-16, 21-11 win. On Court 2, UMHB took
Grace Melnick and
Paige Palmer to three sets but the Huskies prevailed, 11-21, 21-12, 15-7.
Dariya Tlevlessova and
Claudia Verdejo Lozano then took care of business at the fives, 21-14, 21-12, before
Alexa Landmark and
Lauren Vickery won in two (21-18, 22-20) on Court 3. The final point of the dual came on Court 1 with
Hannah Foor and
Olivia Zeigler winning, 21-19, 21-16.
In the later match, the Huskies downed Concordia (0-15) in two sets across the board. The duo of Melnick/Palmer got the scoring started at the twos (21-12, 21-10) before Chappell/Whittemore picked up point number two (21-16, 21-14) at the fours. Landmark and Vickery wasted no time in dispatching the Tornados on Court 3 (21-3, 21-6) for the clinching point before Foor/Zeigler won on Court 1 (21-9, 21-10). The fifth point came from Tlevlessova paired with
Sophia Sabol on Court 5 with the duo winning 21-10, 21-9.
HCU heads to Birmingham, Ala. this Friday and Saturday, Apr. 10-11, for the UAB Blazer Beach Bash with matches scheduled against Tulane, Mercer, ULM and UAB.
