BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The HCU beach team earned a 4-1 win over ULM before falling, 3-2, in a closely contested matchup against host UAB on Saturday.
HCU (8-21) continued its run of dominance over the Warhawks (6-21), running the program's win streak against ULM to nine-straight wins.
Grace Melnick and
Paige Palmer got things started with a win on Court 2 in two sets (21-13, 21-17) before ULM evened things up with a win on Court 4.
Hannah Foor and
Olivia Zeigler picked up a point on Court 1, winning 21-15, 21-17. On Court 5,
Claudia Verdejo Lozano and
Dariya Tlevlessova earned a three-set (19-21, 21-14, 15-12) victory for the decisive third point before
Alexa Landmark and
Lauren Vickery wrapped up their two-set (21-18, 23-21) win on Court 3.
In the afternoon matchup with the Blazers (23-9), UAB took the first point on Court 4 but Foor and Zeigler got one back for the Huskies on Court 2 with a 15-21, 21-13, 15-11 win. Landmark and Vickery then put HCU in the lead with a Court 3 victory in two sets (21-19, 21-18). Melnick and Palmer then fell on Court 1 (21-13, 21-14) before the final point on Court 5 went against Verdejo Lozano and
Mycah Whittemore (24-22, 21-17).
HCU will next compete at the 2026 Southland Conference Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas on Wednesday, Apr. 22, as the No. 4 seed against No. 5 seed New Orleans.
