BVB: Huskies Split on Day One at Blazer Beach Bash

HCU falls to Tulane before defeating Mercer



BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – HCU beach split a pair of duals on Friday at the UAB Blazer Beach Bash, falling to a Tulane team sitting just outside the AVCA Top 20 before defeating Mercer, 3-2.
 
The Huskies (7-20) opened the day against the Green Wave (17-11), falling 5-0. All five matches finished in two sets with Claudia Verdejo Lozano and Dariya Tlevlessova taking both their sets to extra points, falling 23-21, 24-22.
 
In match two, HCU defeated Mercer (4-22) in a 3-2 final. Hannah Foor and Olivia Zeigler picked up the Huskies' first point on Court 2 with a two set (21-18, 21-18) victory. Mercer won at the fours, leaving the matchup tied 1-1 as the next three flights began. Grace Melnick and Paige Palmer put the Huskies ahead with a three-set (18-21, 21-17, 15-13) win on Court 1. The Bears again evened things up with a win on Court 3, leaving the deciding point to Court 5. Verdejo Lozano and Tlevlessova came through in three sets (21-18, 13-21, 15-12) to secure the win.
 
The Huskies face ULM at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, Apr. 11, morning followed by a matchup with the host Blazers at 12:00 p.m.
