SB: Huskies stopped by SFA in series finale

Lumberjacks sweep series; HCU now on road for nine of next 12

HOUSTON --- Houston Christian University dropped the series finale to Stephen F. Austin State University, falling 10-1 at Husky Field on Saturday afternoon. The Lumberjacks opened things up with a seven-run sixth inning to finish off the weekend sweep.

An RBI single by Jamie Varga was followed by a two-run triple by Ellie Vance as the Jacks took a 3-0 lead in the third. SFA then broke the game open in the sixth, with three errors aiding a six-hit explosion. Kylie Bishop and Adelyn Becerra had the big blows, each connecting on a two-run single as part of the seven run outburst, with five of the runs being unearned.

HCU got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, when Maddy Bailey led off with a triple off the wall in right center and then came across the plate on a sacrifice fly by Jade Moreno to the fence in left.

Bailey went 2-3 with a run and Chloe Foster went 2-3 as well for the Huskies. Addy Prasifka took the loss for the Huskies, giving up three runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings of work.

Ellie Vance went 4-4 with two RBI and a run scored, notching her third three-hit effort in the series. Lilly Bean was 3-3 while Kylie Bishop added a 2-3, two-run, two-RBI outing. The Jacks (20-16 / 5-7 SLC) made a winner of Kai Hudson (5-3), who went the distance on 87 pitches while allowing the late run on just five hits.

HCU falls to 5-27 overall and 2-10 in the Southland. The Huskies now play nine of their next 12 on the road, beginning with an Easter weekend three-game series in the Alamo City against longtime rival University of the Incarnate Word. The series gets underway with a Good Friday twin-bill on April 3.
