SB: Huskies fall in series finale to Southeastern

HCU returns home for three-game series against TAMUCC next weekend

HAMMOND, Louisiana --- Houston Christian University dropped the series finale to Southeastern Louisiana University on Saturday afternoon, falling 13-3 at North Oak Park. SLU, the two-time defending conference tournament champs, roared back from a 3-1 deficit with a huge fourth inning to complete the sweep.

SLU jumped out in front early. After a 1-2-3 top of the first from HCU, Shelby Morris triple to left center and Chloe Magee brought her in on a groundout to first for a 1-0 lead.

In the second, the Huskies would manufacture a crooked number. Jade Moreno and Heidi Maytum drew consecutive walks to begin the frame. Raenna Liscano then laid down a sacrifice bunt, but the throw to third was off, allowing pinch-runner Tayden Alexander to score all the way from second base.

Karlie Barba walked to load the bases, and one out later, Ella Herrewig reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Maytum to score the second run of the inning. Madison Dominguez then pulled a ball to the right side to score Liscano and give HCU a 3-1 advantage.

Southeastern would put its own three-spot up in the third to retake the lead. A pair of fielding errors led to a pair of runs after a run-down and later in the inning Brilee Ford drew a bases-loaded free pass to put the Lions back on top 4-3.

In the fourth, the Lions broke the game open. Shenita Tucker laced an RBI single down the left field line and then after stealing second, scored on a single back up the middle by Shelby Morris to extend the lead to three. Later in the inning, a grand slam from Ford pushed the SLU margin to 11-3.

Madison Dominguez went 1-2 with an RBI and Maddy Bailey went 1-3 for HCU. Cara Pitman (1-8) suffered the loss with three innings of work giving up three earned runs.

Brilee Ford was 1-2 with the homer and five RBI to lead SLU (22-9 / 6-0). Hallie Burns (7-3) picked up the win with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.

The Huskies (4-21 / 1-5 SLC) return home next weekend to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a three-game series. The two teams will square off in a twin-bill on Friday beginning at 4 pm with the series finale set for noon on Saturday. The two games on Friday will be available on ESPN+.
