Huskies and two-time defending SLC tournament champs close series at noon on Saturday

HAMMOND, Louisiana --- Houston Christian University dropped both ends of a Southland Conference doubleheader, falling to the two-time defending tournament champ Southeastern Louisiana University 8-0 and 19-0 at North Oak Park on Friday afternoon.

The Huskies (4-20 / 1-4 SLC) will look to salvage the series finale on Saturday when they take on the Lions (21-9 / 5-0 SLC) in a noon first pitch.

GAME 1

Leah Hammack worked out of trouble in the first two innings, leaving the bases loaded in the first before escaping a two-on, one-out jam in the second.

SLU would finally break through in the third, as Maria Detillier cranked the first pitch of the inning off the foul pole to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Two throwing errors aided two more runs and an RBI single by Colleen Kulivan capped the four-run frame that would prove to be enough for the hosts.

Breana Herrera had the lone hit for the Huskies, which also signaled the end of a 12-game hitting streak for Madison Dominguez. Hammack (1-4) took the loss going three innings and allowing four earned runs.

Macie LaRue (3-2) was the winning hurler, going four innings with one walk and four strikeouts. Watson went 3-4 to lead a 13-hit attack for the Lions.

GAME 2

In game two, the Lions kept the momentum going, putting up a six-spot in the first inning and never looking back. Maria Detillier had a two-run triple to start the scoring and Brilee Ford and Shenita Tucker added two-run singles in the frame.

Addy Prasifka (0-7) took the loss for the Huskies and Cara Pitman went 1-2 from the plate.

Katherine Thiessen (2-1) picked up the victory, backed by a four-hit, four-RBI outing from Detillier.
