SB: Huskies stopped twice at UH Tournament on Friday

HCU concludes four-games across town on Saturday with 11 am rematch vs. Fairfield

HOUSTON --- Houston Christian University dropped a pair of games on Friday at the University of Houston Tournament, falling 11-0 to Fairfield University in the morning opener before a 7-0 defeat to the host Cougars in the afternoon bill.

HCU is now 0-3 to start the season and will return to action for the fourth and final game of the UH Tournament on Saturday morning with an 11 am rematch with Fairfield.

GAME 1 - vs. Fairfield

HCU couldn't get the bats going and Fairfield used a huge nine-run fourth inning to hand the Huskies an 11-0 defeat in the Friday morning opener.

The Stags got a two-run single to center by Anna Paravati in the third to open the scoring. Fairfield then loaded the bases in the fourth inning, and a two-run single by Martina Guiterrez pushed the lead to 4-0. A fielding error and fielder's choice scored two more before a two-run single by Delaney Wheildon pushed the advantage to 8-0.

Maddy Bailey had the lone hit for HCU, going 1-2. Addy Prasifka took the loss, going 3.1 innings and allowing four runs.

Anna Pavarati went 1-3 with three RBI, and Delaney Whieldon and Martinea Gutierrez each drove in a pair to back the pitching of Alyssa Weinberg, who went five innings and struck out 11 to pick up her first win of the season.

GAME 2 - vs. Houston

Game two saw the Cougars grab an early lead with single runs in the first and second before crooked numbers in third and fifth broke the game open.

Ariel Redmond scored on a fielding error in the first frame and a second run came across on a bases loaded free pass to Mandy Esman in the second, putting UH ahead 2-0. Kylei Griffin led off the third with a solo homer and Redmond provided an RBI single later in the inning to make it 4-0.

Redmond added a sac fly in the fifth before a two-run single by Makenna Mitchell closed the scoring.

Karlie Barba, Cara Pitman, Chloe Foster and Tayden Alexander each collected a hit for the Huskies. Christin Haygood was saddled with the loss, going 5.2 innings with two strikeouts.

Redmond and Ronnie Esparza each had two hits, while Redmond and Mitchell drove in two apiece to back the complete game effort of Gigi Solis, who gave up four hits and struck out four.
