LAKE CHARLES, La. – The HCU women's basketball team returns to the road Thursday night, taking on league-leading McNeese at 6:30 p.m. inside Townsley Law Arena in a Southland Conference matchup.
The Huskies (6-14, 4-9 SLC) enter the contest coming off a 63–50 road victory over Texas A&M–Corpus Christi, a win that snapped a three-game skid and marked their second conference road win of the season. Freshman
Kamryn McLaurin scored a team-high 13 points while
Hannah Fields added a career-best 12 points. Over the last seven games, HCU has won the turnover battle six times to improve the team's turnover margin in Southland Conference play to +0.54 for the third-best mark in the league.
McNeese (18-4, 12-1 SLC) sits atop the conference standings and has won 11-straight games, tying for the 11th-longest current win streak in the country. Dakota Howard paces the Cowgirls at 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, with Arianna Patton adding 9.9 points per outing.
HCU hosted the Cowgirls in Sharp Gym on Dec. 31, falling 63-43 to the visitors. Both teams' freshmen were on display in the game as Howard scored a game-high 18 for McNeese while McLaurin led the Huskies with 17 points. The Cowgirls forced the Huskies into 27 turnovers in that game while HCU managed to lead the way on the boards by a 34-27 margin.
Following Thursday's contest, HCU will continue its road swing on Saturday, Feb. 7, with a trip to Hammond, La. to face Southeastern at 1:00 p.m.
