SB: Huskies fall twice on second day at Bearkat Invitational

HCU will play twice more on Saturday vs. Austin Peay and Prairie View A&M

HUNTSVILLE --- Houston Christian University came up short on both ends on the second day of the Bearkat Invitational, falling to Prairie View A&M University 7-1 in the opener before dropping a 5-0 decision to host Sam Houston State University in the nightcap.

The Huskies are now 1-11 on the season. HCU will play twice more on Saturday to close out their time in Huntsville, facing Austin Peay State University at 11 am and Prairie Vew A&M University for the second time on the weekend in the 1:30 pm finale.

GAME 1 vs. Prairie View

HCU got on the board first, scoring a single time in their first at-bat. Raenna Liscano walked to start the game and moved to second when Chloe Foster was hit by a pitch. A groundout by Leah Hammack moved the runners up and Liscano then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jade Moreno for a 1-0 HCU lead.

PV got the run back in the top of the second inning, scoring on an RBI single to left by Dyani McKinley. In the top of the fourth, the Panthers would load the bases with one out, but Addy Prasifka induced a come-backer for the second out at home before a line drive to Madison Dominguez in right field ended the threat.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies loaded the bases with walks from Chloe Phe and Dominguez sandwiching a base hit from Ella Herrewig. Nothing would cross however, and the game remained deadlocked at 1-1.

Prairie View put up a crooked number in the fifth inning, all coming with two outs. Isabela Rodriguez had a two-run single as the Panther pushed across six runs in the frame.

HCU managed just three hits in the game by Ella Herrewig, Jocelyn Briseno and Madison Dominguez. Addy Prasifka (0-3) was saddled with the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits with five walks and five punchouts in 4.2 innings.

Aryana Cruz led a 12-hit attack for Prairie View (5-6), going 3-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Kayla Adams (2-1) went the distance for the Panthers, giving up just one run on three hits with four walks and four K's.

GAME 2 vs. Sam Houston

After two scoreless frames, Sam Houston broke through in the bottom of the third. Sophia Lundstrom singled, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before coming home on an RBI double from Jordan Peno.

Veronica Harrison then mashed a two-run homer to left center to push the Kats lead to 3-0. In the sixth, Kyla Heine provided an RBI triple and then scored on an RBI groundout by Karrlauhn Deas to close the scoring.

Leah Hammack and Madison Dominguez each went 1-3 at the plate for the Huskies. Hammack (0-2) pitched admirably in defeat, going six innings and allowing five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Abbey Papadimitrio went 2-3 for the Bearkats (10-4) while Veronica Harrison was 1-3 with the homer and two RBI. Tiffany Sanchez (3-2) went the distance, allowing just two hits and striking out nine.
