SB: Huskies halted by Roadrunners in San Antonio

HCU heads to Huntsville for five games in three days at Bearkat Invitational

SAN ANTONIO --- Houston Christian University dropped its first mid-week game of the season, falling to UTSA 9-1 at Roadrunner Field on Tuesday evening. The hosts jumped out to a three-run lead after one inning and never looked back.

After a Sabrina Wick RBI double, Samantha Mundine brought her around with a homer to deep right, staking the Runners to a quick 3-0 lead. Another run would come across in the third on a solo homer by Demiree Stafford.

The Huskies got on the board in the fifth as Jocelyn Briseno singled to left to lead off the inning and then stole second. Leah Hammack knocked a double down the right field line to plate Briseno and cut the deficit to 4-1.

UTSA would then break the game open and over in the bottom of the frame. A two-run double by Madison Lenton was followed by a walk to Katia Reyes. Pinch-hitter Caton Ledbetter then sent everyone home with a three-run jack to left center, ending the game by run-rule.

HCU was held to just five hits from five separate players, with Leah Hammack going 1-2 with an RBI and Jocelyn Briseno going 1-2 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Addy Prasifka (0-2) took the loss going four innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Arlette Hernandez picked up the win with three innings of one-hit hurling, moving to 3-1 on the season. Makayla Madrid went 3-3 while Mundine was 2-3 with the homer and two RBI. Ledbetter was 1-1 with the homer and three RBI and Lenton added the two-run dinger for the Roadrunners, now 3-6 overall.

HCU is now 1-8 on the season and returns to action this weekend when it travels to Huntsville for five games over three days in the Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston State University. Play begins with 5:30 pm matchup with the hosts on Thursday evening at Bearkat Softball Complex.
