INDIANAPOLIS – Trent Johnson, a graduate forward for Houston Christian University, has been selected to the E*TRADE Men's 3-Point contest "
watch list" as part of 37th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Friday, April 3. The event will be broadcast nationally on ESPN on Sunday (April 5).
A 6'6 native of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, Johnson is currently averaging 8.5 points per game for the Huskies while knocking down 42.6% of his tries from long distance. He is 18th in the Southland Conference in three-pointers per game at 1.7 and is also hitting a robust 84.3% from the free throw line.
He now set and broken his career-high in scoring on three occasions this season. After setting a new high with 17 against ULM on November 13 and then matching it twice,
Johnson went 7-8 from the floor and 3-4 from deep to score 19 points in the January 17 win over East Texas A&M in the first game of HCU's most recent homestand.
That mark didn't last long as he registered his first career 20-point game in the win over Incarnate Word in the homestand finale. He has a career-best five three-pointers on two occasions this season and has hit two more more in 12 of 25 contests. He also established a new personal best with his eight assists against UTRGV on January 24.
Johnson is in his second season with the Huskies. He averaged 5.8 points a game last season, knocking down 46.6% from the arc on 26-71 shooting in 30 games played. He transferred to HCU after spending a campaign at Idaho State University on the heels of two seasons at Midland College.
