WBB: HCU Returns Home for Rematch with Nicholls

The Huskies open a two-game homestand seeking a season split with the Colonels

HOUSTON – The HCU women's basketball team returns to Sharp Gym on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 6:00 p.m. to host Nicholls in Southland Conference action in the first game of a two-game homestand for the Huskies.

HCU (6-16, 4-11 SLC) enters the matchup looking to bounce back after a narrow road loss at Southeastern last weekend. The Huskies are 4-4 at home this season and will face a Nicholls squad that sits 11-11 overall and 7-8 in conference play but has lost seven of its last 11 games. In the first meeting between the teams in December, Nicholls earned a 70-47 win in Thibodaux.

In last Saturday's loss to the Lady Lions, the Huskies held a 34-28 lead at the half and had the game tied, 57-57, with just 3:47 to play before ultimately falling by a 68-61 final. Four HCU players scored in double-figures with Tove Caesar and Madison Hurta each netting 13 points while Grace Booth added 12 and Kamryn McLaurin finished with 11.

Nicholls is paced by Marie Kenembeni and Sh'Diamond McKnight, both averaging better than 10 points per game, with Kenembeni shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor. The Colonels are coming off a 69-42 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday with McKnight and Kenembeni scoring 22 and 19, respectively.

Thursday's contest is the first of two home games this week for HCU, which will also host New Orleans on Saturday, Feb. 14, afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
